TUTORIAL TUESDAY: Spikey Wire Rings

There are loads of wire ring tutorials knocking about on the Internet at the moment, and as much as I love the little bow and heart rings (I've made some for myself!) I wanted to give you something different to try your hand at. The best thing about these is you can wear just one for a sweet crown like look, or for a contrast layer them up to give a much rougher, edgy style.

I used a ring mandrel to make my rings, but you can use a cylinder object just slightly smaller than the finger you want to wear them on (the wire stretches slightly after it is wrapped). Something like a marker pen could work nicely.

1. Cut a length of wire around 20cm/8 inches 2. Warm the wire between your fingers. 3. Wrap the wire around the mandrel (slightly smaller than the size you would like) 1 and 1/4 times. 4. Take the ring off the mandrell and using the round nose pliers bend and shape the wire into 2, 3 or 4 points. 5. Placing the ring back onto the mandrel and carefully wrap the wire to meet the other end. 6. Trim the wire so that the ends meet snuggly. 7. At this point you could use a chasing hammer to flatten and strenthen the wire. I've left these ones rounded.
